Bread Furst Review: Best Bakery in the DMV Area (4.85/5) Bread Furst is one of the best bakeries in the DMV area. Although it's a bit farther from the city, its convenient location on the Red Line makes it easily accessible. The breakfast sandwiches and coffee here are unparalleled. We particularly love the messy egg with home fries, perfectly complemented by an iced vanilla latte. The service is always friendly and fast, ensuring a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is lively and often packed with folks during breakfast and lunch, adding to the bustling charm of the place. If you're looking for a top-notch bakery experience, Bread Furst is well worth the visit.

One of my fave dc coffee shops. Stopped by on a very hot summer Sunday morning and the line was out the door so decided to come back in the afternoon when it was quieter! i love their coffee and perusing their speciality ingredients! it was hot and a bit cramped inside, but the staff was, as always, so friendly! my partner got an affagato and immediately spilled the coffee everywhere and the barista was kind enough to give us a new one free of charge! wish they had a bit more seating, but their outside area is adorable and well shaded!

Great bakery (and more!) a short walk from the Van Ness Metro. I got a pain au chocolat, but I felt bad about making a long trip just for one pastry, so I added a lemon poppy seed muffin. Oops. It came out to just shy of $10, but I'd say it's worth it. Both pastries were delicious. The pain au chocolat had a crisp shell and a flaky crumb, with just the right amount of chocolate filling. The muffin was rich and heavily flavored with lemon and icing, teetering on the edge of being too sweet but never quite corssing over. The narrow shop is packed with other items as well, besides pastries and breads, they offer prepared foods, pasta sauces, and other snacks. It all seems to be premium product offerings, with the price to match. Excellent food, but with both the distance cost and money cost, I'm not sure how often I'll be back.

Heard this was a must visit, and they weren't wrong. Be sure to get there early, or plan to stand in line for at least 15 minutes as they have so many visitors. However, they get through the line pretty quickly. The messy egg toast is in indeed messy, but it was delicious. They make the eggs to order so it took a moment to get my order, unlike if you order a pre-made sandwich which is ready immediately. Very crowded place but definitely worth the wait!

Banana pudding was flavorless - tasted of bland whipped cream and banana, couldn't taste the pudding or dense shortbread (cookie? cake?) in it. Black sesame latte could use a touch of sweetener and more sesame (it was very milky). But everything else was fantastic, including the chocolate almond croissant and walnut cranberry bread were fantastic. The veggie and ham and cheese sandwiches were great but served cold, and I found them much improved when I brought them and toasted them Parking in the back lot of a Friday morning seemed fine but it was still very crowded! I can see parking being impossible on the weekend.

Went to Bread Furst on a Sunday morning to grab their Canelés, it was suuuper busy so you need to come early before they run out of things! The place smells great and has a lot of delicious baked goods, and perishable goods. For pastries, we got the Canelés, Coconut Custard Pie, and a Croissant, and for sandwiches we got the Jambon Beurre Ham Sandwich. We got the last two Canelés they had out for the morning, they had a crispy exterior with a deliciously soft and sweet interior, definitely one of our favorites! The Coconut Custard had a nice flakey crust, with a tasty coconut custard on the inside. The Croissant was so flakey, so buttery, super delicious! My favorite was the savory Jambon Beurre though, the Parisian baguette had a nice crunch and bite to it, and the salty savory ham in the sandwich made it a fantastic combination. Location is great, not super far from the Van Ness Metro station. The service was good for how busy the place was that morning, they were accommodating to any questions we had! Definitely will be back when I'm in the area for breakfast.

Can't believe I had never heard of this place before, I was so happy to have finally discovered this gem. We need more bakeries in DC! I have to say, this bakery has some of the most options of any bakery I have been to in Washington. It is however on the pricey side, but it's a great operation and you can probably find whatever grain related product you're looking for.

Came here since I really had to use the restroom and my friend needed some food in her system. It's cool that you can see the behind the scenes of bakers baking bread and pastries through a window right by the entrance. The bathroom is gender neutral, and was clean. I loved the artwork inside. My friend got an apple tart and a baguette sandwich (can't remember how it was said on the menu but essentially a ham and cheese). The prices are on the higher end, but I'd say they give a good amount of food to make it worth it. There is also a market place with different Knick knacks food items for convenience -- think tiny Nutella jars for $1.50, gummy candies, homemade hummus containers. Though there was a line, service was fast and we were in and out. I'd love to give it another shot since I treated my friend out but she had to head home right after.

I'm several months behind in writing this review, but better late than never. I went in the spring, probably around 11am when there was a line out the door. It moved quickly though, and I was hungry so I ordered à jambon beurre, and a bagel and lox. Thé baguette for the jambon beurre was slightly dry but had a pretty texture overall. The bagel was delicious. Ordered an oat milk decaf latte as well which was good. They have a bunch of gourmet food products you can also buy in the shop. Not a ton of seating, but there are some tables outside and a few in the back parking lot. Show up early!
